Pailin Pornpiboon is the treasured son of Surin Pakshiri, a leading figure in Isaan music, and an authentic moram singer in the tradition of Angkanan Kunchai. This best-of album, the first of its kind in the world, collects the best performances from the late 70s and early 80s when he and Pakshiri were at their best. Despite their popularity and ability, there were not many recordings (→ Pakshiri did not want to overproduce), and most of the recordings were released as singles, so the value of this album is quite high. Almost all of the songs are being reissued and released on CD for the first time in the world. The title song "Ram Chrome Tung (Phantom White Bird)" was the theme song of the hit movie "Mong Rak Menam Mu" (1978), which starred Isaan music, and is her signature song. It is said that Wipot Phetpan, a major figure in Thai music, was so moved by this song that he begged Pak Siri to produce a cover of the song. Surin Pakxiri has always been a reformer who breathed new life into Issan music, but because Pailin was a singer at the peak of her powers, her works are very experimental.The recordings are full of deep and heavy works, including polyrhythmic songs reminiscent of African music and tribal dance music itself. In Thai music, where the spotlight tends to be placed only on the singer's appearance and singing, there is a lineup of masterpieces that should also be talked about in terms of sound, just like the work of famous producers and arrangers in Japan, the U.S., and Europe. This is not funk, jazz, rock, or club music, but a unique musical form!
