Misa Mead (née Misa Akahoshi) is releasing her debut solo album. The title track, “Journey,” is an original composition by Misa Mead. Originally composed as an octet for euphonium and tuba at the request of tuba player Roger Bobo, the piece was later arranged for euphonium and piano. In addition to featuring original compositions such as the “Ote-myan Fantasy,” inspired by the Kumamoto folk song “Ote-myan,” and “GAME—A Suite for Euphonium and CD Accompaniment,” which uses a CD for accompaniment, In Derrick Boujow’s “Fantasy Rondo for Euphonium Duet,” featuring Steven Mead as a guest artist, the duo delivers a performance that truly showcases their impeccable chemistry. Also included is David Gillingham’s “Euphonium Concerto (Summer of 2008),” in which Misa Mead’s exceptional technique and delicate, lyrical expression are a must-hear. [Misa Mead (née Misa Akahoshi)] First Prize winner at the 4th All-Japan Junior High and High School Wind and Percussion Solo Contest, Gold Prize at the 25th All Kyushu High School Music Competition; Unanimous Gold Medal at the European Competition for Young Soloists held in Luxembourg; 3rd Place at the 7th Jeju International Wind and Percussion Competition (highest-ranking Japanese participant); and numerous other competition awards. Performed at the 78th Yomiuri New Artists Concert. In March 2013, she appeared as a guest at “Tuba Mania” (Bangkok, Thailand), one of Asia’s largest festivals for euphonium and tuba. In May of the same year, she appeared as a guest at “SWRTEC,” a festival for euphonium and tuba in California, USA. After moving to the UK in July 2013, she began performing internationally in France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and other countries. In March 2014, she married Stephen Mead.
