Symphony No. 10 (Composer’s Arrangement) + Concertino for Two Pianos This is the second installment of the Shostakovich Complete Symphonies for Four-Hand Piano. Symphony No. 10, in the composer’s own arrangement, was premiered by the composer himself and the composer Weinberg; while a recording by this duo does exist, it is difficult to obtain. The sister duo, Anastasia and Lyubov, excel at "captivating" the listener, skillfully utilizing the percussive elements of the piano to deliver a masterful performance full of tension. Their handling of the somber opening of the first movement is particularly magnificent; if they nail this section, success in the rest of the piece is virtually guaranteed. This is their latest studio recording from August of this year. The coupling is the rare “Concertino.” Although composed and premiered around the same time as Symphony No. 10, this piece is, for some reason, rarely given a second look—yet once you hear it, you’ll be utterly amazed by its charm. This is a live recording from Moscow. A collection of masterful four-hand performances with absolutely perfect coordination.
