A live release from the collection of Pierre Fournier (1906-1986), a cello virtuoso and still very popular maestro. Ten years have passed since his studio recording with Sell and the Berlin Philharmonic (1962), which is highly acclaimed as the definitive recording. Fournier, who has gained even more maturity and dignity, talks about the music to the fullest. The ultimate masterpiece, the ultimate performance. Fournier's tone has a gorgeous fragrance. An ideal form that never loses its elegance and at the same time burns hot. I was bowled over by the young maestro Marcal accompanying with the virtue of humility, practicing "three steps back and do not step on the shadow of the master. Brahms' Double Concerto is Fournier's favorite piece. What a surprise, this is a later performance than the recording with Francescatti + Walter. The combination with the Viennese violinist Schneiderhan, who feels it all the more sadly, is a pleasure to listen to. This is a blood-boiling masterpiece. D'Honagni's sharp-edged, dry baton has been brilliant since his youth, and as of 2019, the maestro, who is still going strong at over 90 years of age, has readily consented to the CD release.*Includes liner notes in English, Japanese and German Tobu Land System
