Such a miraculous performance was left behind! A collection of Strauss Family masterpieces by Matacic. Originally recorded in stereo in the studio, these recordings are no longer extant, and it is a pity that only the monaural track downs have survived, but the sound quality is superb. Matacic was born in Croatia during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, joined the Vienna Boys Choir at the age of 9, and continued his musical training in Vienna, so his musical background is unmistakably Viennese. It is no wonder that Lehar's complete recording of "The Merry Widow" has been highly acclaimed from the time of its release until now. The session recording was made in East Berlin before the Berlin Wall was erected. The orchestra is also of extraordinary quality. As expected, the performance is profound and reminiscent of Knappertsbusch. Although there is no surprise play like Kuhna's, the music is rich and full of mature dignity and reserve. The "Tropical Roses" and "The Life of an Artist" are symphonic architectural masterpieces. The music of the celestial bodies is on the grandest scale. As one would expect from Matacic.
