This is a performance that goes directly against the recent trend of minimalist performance style. It is clear that Svetlanov was also a rare Mozartian, as evidenced by his performance of No. 34 with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in a large ensemble, which blew the audience away. However, he was not blessed with good recordings, and only a poor monaural recording of No. 40 can be heard.
