Master conductor Bertini, who was in such good health until just before his death, passed away so unexpectedly. At the time when such a great conductor was visiting Japan so often, I took him for granted like water or air, but now I realize that he always gave a series of miraculous and brilliant performances. Let's listen to the complete Brahms symphonies, which are appearing for the first time. This performance was given all at once when the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra appeared in June 2003, and the unity of Bertini's performance plan can be clearly read. The tempo is not lean, but rather fast and comfortable. The tempo is not too fast, but not too slow, and the performance is not heavy or heavy at all. The singing is operatic, but the closing is classical. It is a performance that is calculated to the last detail. Bertini has been praised as "the second coming of Toscanini," and he is absolutely right. The dedication of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, which I would call the maestro's hands and feet, is also worthy of special mention. The sound quality is also excellent in digital format.
