Description:
Schuricht's "Ninth" Revived by French Pressing Schuricht, I have heard that when listening to the French pressing of the "Ninth" by the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, the German vocalizations in the voices become nasal, as if they were French. This is an example of what I mean when I say that the French pressings are French. I did not have such an experience with the later CDs, so I searched for a French pressing of Schuricht's "Ninth" and was able to obtain a Trianon disc of the French Pathe Marcony. It is said that this is not the first pressing of the Ninth and is relatively easy to obtain, but even so, compared to the CD, there is a marked difference in terms of the reality and flavor of the sound. The Trianon disc is in good condition and has been reissued. The Trianon disc has a French taste in sound production, not only in the wind instruments but also in the vocal parts. The word "coloring" is used today only in a negative sense, but in the analog era, one could say that the quality of a record was determined by how tastefully it was colored. Schuricht's recording of the Ninth is certainly one of the most successful. Here, the coloring does not hinder Schuricht's art, but rather makes it more vivid. As you know, a stereo version of Schuricht's "Ninth" was later released, but the charm of this French recording is enough to make one lose one's attachment to it. What is particularly noteworthy is Schuricht's mastery of vocal music. This French recording reminds us that Schuricht was familiar with vocal music from his childhood and that his regular position in Berlin was that of conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Chorus.(Kenshi Ota, Otaken Records) [Comments courtesy of Tobu Land System] ---.
