Description:
The Kobe City Mixed Chorus is a professional choir based in Kobe that performs a wide range of genres both in Japan and abroad, and has been active for 23 years. The group has been recognized for its rich musicality and high technical proficiency; for example, its 2011 live album, “The Lyrical World of Katsuyoshi Uno,” was selected as a “Special Selection” in the December issue of *Record Arts* magazine. This release marks the second installment of Japanese mixed-voice choral music conducted by Kōhō Uno. To maximize the strengths of a live performance, it was recorded at the Kobe Shimbun Matsukata Hall as a public recording with a limited audience. Makoto Sato’s “Song of Youth,” composed in Showa 39, is considered a masterpiece that was both original and innovative for its time; its power and dynamism are exhilarating, as each theme resonates directly with the listener. Additionally, this marks Unno’s first recording of the mixed-voice version of the suite “Seasons of the Heart” (composed by Saburō Takada), which consists of seven scenes; the exquisite balance between the voices and the piano is both beautiful and stable. “Coconut” and “Wildflowers in the Garden” allow the listener to leisurely savor the scenes, while “Sakura,” performed by a female a cappella ensemble and a soprano soloist, once again etches the beauty of traditional Japanese folk songs into the heart. A highlight is “Lullaby of Memories,” in which the love of adults is whispered through a velvety pianissimo. The recording beautifully captures the choir’s signature qualities—its refreshing vitality and warm spirit of service to the listener—as it masterfully meets Uno’s musical demands. Tobu Land System
