Takashi Asahina (conductor) / Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra

Description:

The release commemorating the 100th anniversary of Takashi Asahina's birth, "Glazunov: Symphony No. 8 and Tchaikovsky: 'Pathetique'", performed live in 1992 by the New Star Japan Symphony Orchestra conducted by Takashi Asahina, is now available on the Tobu Recordings label. We will continue to boldly take up the challenge of introducing great performances from Japan and abroad. The first release is a live concert of the last collaboration between Takashi Asahina, a master musician celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, and the New Star Japan Symphony Orchestra. Glazunov's concert itself was highly acclaimed as a very masterful performance. The concert itself was critically acclaimed, and although it was once released as a self-produced disc by the Shinsei Nippon Symphony Orchestra, the number of copies available on the market was very few, and the disc was soon discontinued. The performance was magnificent in scale, as only Asahina can do, and the dignified sound was unforgettably moving. The main program of the day was "Pathetique," one of Asahina's best works. The performance on the 26th was used for this piece. The extremely slow tempo and meticulous description of Tchaikovsky's tragic melody left no choice but to surrender oneself from the beginning to the end. The applause at the end of the third movement was so great that the audience applauded. The passion and power of Asahina's passionate performance of two such large-scale pieces is truly astonishing. 1992's masterful performance, which could be called a "pre-late period," is different from the withered flavor from the late 1990s until his death, and is full of the charm of his prime years. The encore performance of Ryadov's "Melancholy Song," a favorite of the romanticist Asahina, was also included in the program. The performance by the rising star NHK Symphony Orchestra was noteworthy for its passionate performance of both pieces, and its technical perfection, including its lustrous tone and powerful roar, was superb.
