The live recording of her historic 40th-anniversary debut concert, held at Suntory Hall on Sunday, October 12, 2025, is now available! Koyama, who continues to make her mark as the first Japanese pianist to have won prizes at both the Tchaikovsky and Chopin International Competitions—two of the world’s most prestigious—is renowned for her mastery of the Russian repertoire. She has previously released Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (conducted by A. Davies with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, recorded in 1992) and No. 3 (conducted by V. Fedoseyev with the Tchaikovsky Memorial Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, recorded in 2002). This recording of the Second Concerto marks her second recording of the work, coming 33 years after her first recording in London in October 1992. The performance features the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra & Fedoseyev Friends, conducted by Dmitri Yurovsky. The recording also includes “Paganini Rhapsody—Variation No. 18,” performed as an encore on the day of the concert, capturing the unique immediacy of a live performance!
