Kazuo Ishiguro, winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature and the author of highly acclaimed film adaptations such as "The Remains of the Day" and "Watashi wo Mawarasanai" (Never Let Me Go), wrote his debut feature-length novel, "The Light of Distant Mountains," in 1982, for which he received the Royal Society of Literature Award. Set in his birthplace of Nagasaki, the film is a human mystery that unravels the secrets of intersecting "memories" that transcend time and place: Nagasaki in the 1950s, just after the war, and England in the 1980s. Directed by Kei Ishikawa. A Certain Man" won a total of eight awards at the 46th Japan Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Kazuo Ishiguro himself was named as an executive producer for the film adaptation, which is a three-country co-production between Japan, the United Kingdom, and Poland. The music is by Polish composer and clarinetist Pawel Mwikietin. Starring Suzu Hirose and a splendid cast including Fumi Nikaido, Yo Yo Yoshida, Kohei Matsushita, and Tomokazu Miura, the film brings to the screen a story that begins with a lie told by women in the summer of 2025, the 80th anniversary of the end of the war.
