Arturo Toscanini left an enormous mark on the history of 20th century music. In the first half of his life, he worked mainly with European and American opera houses, and in the second half of his life, as a concert conductor, he performed a wide range of repertoire at an extremely high standard. The NBC Symphony Orchestra from 1937 is one of the earliest successful examples of media mixing in the art of music. The CD will be reissued in analog LP jacket design. Toscanini was a great admirer of the works of his contemporary, R. Strauss. The three works on this disc are session recordings made in his final years, and the sound quality has been enhanced to bring out the speed of the stage transitions in "Till," the intensity of the aching longing for love in "Don Juan," and the dramatic ups and downs in "Death and Transfiguration" in vivid, palpable sound.
