Arturo Toscanini left an enormous mark on the history of 20th century music. In the first half of his life, he worked mainly with European and American opera houses, and in the second half of his life, as a concert conductor, he performed a wide range of repertoire at an extremely high standard. The NBC Symphony Orchestra from 1937 is one of the earliest successful examples of media mixing in the art of music. The CD will be reissued in analog LP jacket design. Toscanini performed very few Sibelius works, so the four pieces on this disc are a rare treat. The lyricism of the string part, with Toscanini's trademark lustrous and robust cantabile, is perfectly in tune with the essence of Sibelius' music.
