Klaus Nomi

Description:

<40th anniversary of Klaus Nomi's death> Best of his hits and representative songs Born on January 24, 1944 in Bavaria, Germany. Trained as an opera singer and moved to New York in 1973. Wearing thick white makeup and outlandish attire, he quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the underground scene in the early 1980s, performing original songs and quirky arrangements of cover versions of everything from arias to pop music with his countertenor. David Bowie heard rumors of his performance and asked him to design costumes and sing in the back chorus for a special on NBC TV's "Saturday Night Live. He released his first album in 1981 and his second in 1982, but by this time, AIDS had already taken its toll on his body. His works are reissued to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his death. This best-of album contains 13 songs, including hits such as "Cold Song," "Total Eclipse," and "Simple Man," as well as representative songs and "I Can't Help Liking You," which is not included on the album.
