Gould's recording of Bach's "Toccata in seven pieces" was made in 1963 for only BWV 914, but the remaining six pieces were recorded in 1979. In the meantime, Gould dropped out of concerts and concentrated on recording activities. The fact that the album projects a unified image with such a big change in between is a testament to the genius of Gould's recording studio. (C)RS
