Description:
Since assuming the position of Chief Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in September 2015, Paavo Järvi has performed a wide range of works, focusing on repertoire that makes the most of the orchestra's tradition of German music performance and high functionality. Among these works, Toru Takemitsu's works are unique, and this album is a compilation of five works performed in three programs from 2016 to 2006. This album, which Järvi himself craned to realize, is his first recording of a Japanese composer, and the first Takemitsu album by the NHK Symphony Orchestra in almost 35 years. With the exception of the early Requiem for Strings, the album consists of works from the 1980s and 1990s. Järvi, who has been actively featuring his own country's contemporary composers, has captured the Toru Takemitsu feeling with his unique sensibility. The "Requiem for Strings" was performed to great acclaim on the first European tour of Järvi and the NHK Symphony Orchestra, which took place immediately after this performance. The two concerto-like works for solo violin are performed by Akiko Suwanai, one of Japan's most popular violinists, who has performed with Järvi for many years.
