[SYD BARRETT PAPERSLEEVE COLLECTION(1)] This is his debut solo album released after leaving Pink Floyd. Co-produced with manager Peter Jenner and Malcolm Jones of Harvest Records, the album features contributions from Hugh Hopper, Robert Wyatt, Mike Rutledge and other members of Soft Machine, Jerry Shirley of Humble Pie, and Willie Wilson, formerly of Jokers Wild. Willie Wilson, formerly of Joker's Wild, and others, as well as David Gilmour and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, joined forces to complete the project. The work is a pursuit of "ethereal beauty" in which madness and silence are hidden amidst a fleeting yet glittering psychedelic world. The single cut, "A Poem to an Octopus," was a hit, reaching No. 11 in the U.K. charts. The album also ranked in the top 40. The striking cover design was created by Storm Torgerson and Aubrey Powell of Hypnosis. Photography by Mick Rock. Includes commentary, lyrics, and bilingual translation. Paper jacket.
