This is a collection of masterpieces by Stefanska, heir to the orthodox Polish interpretation of Chopin. The late Halina Czerny-Stefanska (1922-2001), one of the most famous Polish female pianists of the 20th century along with Rubinstein and others, won the first prize at the International Chopin Competition in 1949, which shows that she was a truly orthodox Chopin player. He proudly bore the name "Czerny" because of his descent from Czerny, a pupil of Beethoven. A virtuoso performer who let us hear the essence of Chopin's music with his robust, yet brilliant tone, he was known for his many visits to Japan, not only for concerts, but also for his master classes and his enthusiastic educational activities. This album is a combination of two solo albums from the four CDs worth of Chopin recordings Stefanska made for RCA in Japan in his final years. A definitive masterpiece.
