This is the direct transmission from the composer. Salonen's exquisite performance sings of love in high spirits. Two years after making his London debut with Mahler's Symphony No. 3 and becoming a darling of the classical music world, Salonen chose Messiaen's "Turangalila Symphony" for his debut recording for the prestigious CBS. Along with Mahler's 3rd Symphony, this is one of Salonen's trademark works. With his clear baton technique and logical interpretation of the work as a composer, Salonen clearly depicts this large work in 10 movements with solo piano and ondes Martenots and a large orchestra with a transparent sound as if it were seen through an x-ray. The sound is so clear and transparent that it seems as if it were seen through a Roentgen, and Messiaen's sonic orientation is beautifully revealed in it. The beauty of the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra, inspired by Salonen, and the virtuosity of the two soloists are also unquestionable. In particular, the piano solo by Paul Crossley, who studied under Yvonne Loriot and won the first prize at the Messiaen Competition, is incomparable in its beauty.
