Following 1981's "Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennac" and "Frankie & Johnny," a collection of never-before-released recordings, we are reissuing the now hard-to-find 1983 classic "The Brightest Smile In Town," the third in a series of solo piano recordings by New Orleans legend Dr. John from his 80s Clean Cuts era! Following 1981's "Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennac" and the completely unreleased "Frankie & Johnny", we are re-releasing the now hard-to-find 1983 classic "The Brightest Smile In Town". (Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennac Vol. 2, 2006, with one additional bonus track) Malcolm John Rebennac Jr. He was born in New Orleans in 1941 to a father who owned a record store, and was exposed to a variety of music from an early age. After joining the Wrecking Crew, he made his solo debut in 1968 with the release of "Gris-Gris" on Atco.In 1972, he released his masterpiece "Gumbo," followed the next year by his biggest hit, "Right Place Wrong Time," which reached #9 in the U.S. In 1989, "Makin' Whoopee" earned him a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, bringing his total to six Grammy Awards in his lifetime. In 2011, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of his influence on the music world and his work in promoting the New Orleans sound.
