The one and only Taj Mahal, a legend who has won numerous music awards including Grammy for his diverse musicality, has compiled the best of his early blues performances from his Columbia Records days from his debut in 1968 to the early 70's! This is a blues album that offers both earthy country blues played by Taj and tight electric blues backed by a band of guitarists including Taj's allies Ry Cooder and Jessi Ed Davis. Simultaneous re-release to celebrate the release of the new album "Savoy"! Henry St. Clair Fredericks, aka Taj Mahal, was born in New York City in 1942. He was born into a musical family and learned to play various instruments at an early age, and began his musical career in the early 1960s while studying agriculture at the University of Massachusetts under the name Taj Mahal. In 1966, the band released the single "Candy Man" on Columbia and produced an album, but it was never released (it was released in 1992), and the band broke up.He then began his solo career, releasing "Taj Mahal" and "The Natch'l Blues" in 1968, backed by a band with guitarist Jessi Ed Davis, and the highly acclaimed double-disc set "Giant Step/De Ole Folks at Home" in 1969. Since then, he has continued to release not only blues albums, but also world roots music albums including reggae, Cajun, gospel, Hawaiian, Caribbean, and African music, and has won many Grammy and other music awards for "Senor Blues" in 1997 and "TajMo" in 2018. He has continued to influence many musicians as a one-of-a-kind presence.
