Mravinsky's 1977 live performance in Osaka is now available on SACD single layer! Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra toured Japan for the third time in October 1977, and the performance on October 8th at the Osaka Festival Hall was recorded by the hall's professional engineer with permission. Both of these recordings are legendary among fans, and the fact that they are in crystal clear stereo is also a shock. There are several recordings of Schubert's "Unfinished" by Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic, but this is the clearest in terms of delicate nuances. The delicate nuances of this recording are the clearest, and the ever-changing nuances and warmth of humanity, while being permeated by a strong sense of tension, are very moving. In the commentary written by Dr. Naoya Hirabayashi, he says, "Just by listening to the weakest notes at the beginning of 'Unfinished,' you can tell that this is an extraordinary performance.The Nutcracker" is another suite selected by Mravinsky, but it is as big and exciting as his later symphonies, and you will find yourself stuck in the middle of it.
