Description:

A classic set from TAHRA’s early days—the Montu 4-CD set—is back with significantly improved sound quality! Power, exhilaration, and depth—all are simply exquisite. The incredibly fascinating interview with Mr. and Mrs. Montu comes with a Japanese translation! The entire 4-CD album set featuring Montu & the Concertgebouw Orchestra, originally released during the early days of the TAHRA label, has been fully remastered with significantly improved sound quality! These grand, powerful, and utterly rare performances are brought back to life in a truly moving way. The accompanying English-language interview (over 10 minutes) includes a Japanese translation in the booklet, making this release even more valuable as a reference compared to the TAHRA edition. The historical insights shared by the Montu couple are incredibly fascinating and definitely worth a listen. Montu himself shares his musical philosophy, and passages where he mentions Weingartner and Toscanini are particularly intriguing—it’s fascinating to hear exactly what he had to say. Mrs. Doris’s personality is quite something as well. The Brahms recordings are all masterful performances, brimming with power and depth. The performances are superb, ranging from the symphonies to the “Tragic Overture.” You can also fully appreciate Milstein’s virtuosity. Berlioz’s performances are marked by majestic tempo choices, revealing the conductor’s skill in bringing the score to life calmly and meticulously, without getting carried away by the frenzy. The 1911 version of *Petrushka*, which Montu premiered, is one of his signature works. Clear, transparent melodies emerge from the large-scale orchestra. The soloist for the Sibelius piece is Jan, a descendant of the renowned Dutch Damen family and concertmaster of the Concertgebouw. King International
