Description:

The orchestra is driven by a sharp eye, and the explosion is frighteningly serious. The intense dramatic intensity that only a live performance can deliver, which is the result of rigorous training! Tearjerker reissue of Markevich's "Giant," a hidden masterpiece for enthusiasts! The classic disc from the Tara label has been reissued with the latest remastering in 2017. One year before Markevich's death. Is this the performance of his last years? Cold and fierce! The dazzling polyphony is controlled so tightly and individually as to be uncanny, and the uniqueness of Mahler's music, which is a multi-layered combination of disparate things, stands out in an unusual way. The seemingly impromptu and frenetic tempo changes are at the same time deeply thought out, with a seamless sense of balance: when a big tame moment is created, the tempo winds down to make up for the delay, and so on. The percussion explosion in the finale will astonish anyone. The timpani and bass drum turned into a mob of destruction! Markevich's uncompromising and earnest explosions were terrific, and the performance burst with dramatic power as a one-time-only live performance. The final act is a masterpiece, pushing forward with a balance that is on the very edge of reason, and driving the audience into a spectacular frenzy on the verge of collapse. Only Markevich could complete such a terrifying tightrope walk. The audience's enthusiastic applause is also included in the recording. Igor Markevich (1912-1983), a naturally gifted musician, began his career as a composer of contemporary music, but later decided to devote himself to conducting, giving up composing and refusing to conduct his own works, devoting himself to performing others' works and acquiring a vast repertoire. He has conducted in more than 50 countries. He was a great conductor with a keen eye for detail in the score, and at the same time, a keen judge of the overall structure, always creating music of the utmost rigor. King International
