Description:

ALTUS x Tokyo Symphony Orchestra Series Starts! ALTUS is pleased to announce the start of the ALTUS x Tokyo Symphony Orchestra Live Series. ALTUS will begin a series of live performances of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra's "Giant" with Kazushi Ohno, music director since 2015. This is a must-see release that vividly captures the "now" of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, which has left its mark on the history of Mahler performance in Japan with Hiroshi Wakasugi, Bertini, Inbal, and others. Rather than leaving the music to the roar of swirling energy, the orchestra takes a very careful approach, flexibly alternating between stillness and movement. However, the power and flavor of the music is not diminished. While maintaining a fresh and lucid sound, a unique tenacity can be seen in the places where the music is held back or stretched out, and deep shadows are drawn. The work is illuminated from different angles, and the listener feels as if shadows extending in unexpected directions are inadvertently overshadowing him or her. Kazushi Ohno is Music Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of the New National Theatre Opera.Since September 2022, he has been Music Director of the Brussels Philharmonic. He has served as Music Director of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, General Music Director of the Baden State Opera, Music Director of the Royal Théâtre de la Monnaie in Belgium, Principal Guest Conductor of the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the Opera National de Lyon in France, and Music Director of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. In recent years, he has enjoyed numerous successes, including the premiere of "Hibiki" by Turnage at the BBC Proms after its premiere at Suntory Hall. 2019 will see the international opera project "Opera Summer Festival 2019-20 Japan ⇔ Tokyo ⇔ World," conceived by Kazushi Ohno, attracting great interest. Both "Turandot" in 2019 and "Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg" in 2021 were critically acclaimed. Also at the New National Theatre of Tokyo, he will be performing "Shion Monogatari" by Akira Nishimura (world premiere) in 2019, "The Dream of Armageddon" by Dai Fujikura (world premiere) in 2020, Wagner's "Die Walkure" and Bizet's "Carmen" (new production) in 2021, "Super Angel" by Keiichiro Shibuya (world premiere) in 2022, and Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande" and Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov" in 2022.He has been a sought-after guest with major orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Radio Philharmonique de France, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been highly acclaimed for "his delicate beauty, full majesty and heart-stirring emotion. He has been highly acclaimed for his "exquisite beauty, full of majesty, and filled with a whirlwind of moving emotion. He has also been invited by major opera houses such as La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Royal Opera House in England to conduct numerous productions. After his tenure at the Opéra National de Lyon, he was awarded the "Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" (Order of Arts and Letters). He has also received numerous other awards, including the Japan Art Academy Prize, the Suntory Music Award, and the Asahi Prize. He is a Person of Cultural Merit. King International Inc.
