Description:
INA's treasured live recordings of two masterpieces with violin masters: Stern's sharpness, Schelling's fluidity, and Cluytens's fragrant and passionate sound. The concerto by Cluytens and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France with Stern and Schelling. The difference in tone between the two masters is perfectly matched to the flavor of the music, resulting in an exceptional performance. Stern's Brahms concerto was previously recorded live in Montreux (1956) with the same combination, but this is a different first release. This is another first release. The solos are powerful and sharp, but balanced with a soft expression. The orchestra is also irresistible, and the oboe in the second movement, for example, is of the highest grade of beauty that makes one sigh. The perfect cohabitation of brilliant virtuosity and symphonic constructiveness makes this a performance that is a must-listen, and one that is very much appreciated! Schelling's Mendelssohn is also back after a long absence. The soloist sang the beautiful melody with a lustrous tone. The orchestra sang beautifully and spontaneously as well, and the performance reached a dramatic climax. The finale is a remarkable finale! The finale is a special highlight! Stern's performance is top class. It is no exaggeration to say that he rivals Ginette Neveu. The stability is outstanding, the suppleness and strength, the subtle sweetness and refinement, are in perfect balance. It's really impressive. The Cruitans bar is also very lively and full of warmth, which is very pleasant.
