The only time Kondrashin was a guest with the NHK Symphony Orchestra was in 1980, the year before his death. 2 pieces were released for the first time! The miraculous once-in-a-lifetime performance that took place the year before his death will be released in 2021, the 40th anniversary of Kondrashin's death, with ALTUS' mastering of the entire collection! Thanks to the cooperation of NHK, the recording of this rare performance, which was the last time Kondrashin visited Japan, has been brought back to life in the modern age. The improved sound quality allows the audience to appreciate Kondrashin's greatness once again. This year (2021) marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Kirill Kondrashin (1914.3.6-1981.3.7), and his second visit to Japan in January 1980, when he performed three times with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. One title was released in 2001 and two titles in 2005 by King Records.The NHK Symphony Orchestra, which at the time was making great strides musically and technically as Japan's top orchestra, and Kondrashin, who was returning to Japan for the first time since 1967 (when he visited Japan with the Moscow Philharmonic and conducted the Japanese premiere of Mahler's Symphony No. 9), made a big splash with this rare collaboration. It was released as part of the NHK Symphony Orchestra Live Series, and needless to say, fans jumped at the chance to hear these three discs. In fact, three pieces were omitted from the actual performance. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death, these performances, which were only released once under license, are being reissued (used prices had skyrocketed) as a 3-CD set, including two previously unreleased pieces that were not included at the time (the program includes one piece before Brahms on the first day). (We would like to add that one concerto was performed before Brahms on the first day, but we were not able to record it due to permission issues). Therefore, although this is not the complete version of the performance as it was in 1980, the program is almost the same as it was at that time.
