Richter, in his later years, performed Bach with all his might! The overwhelming sound of Notre Dame Cathedral. This is the first time that ALTUS has remastered and released on CD this treasured recording that was stored at the INA (Institut National d'Audiovisual de France). This is the Notre Dame live performance of the last years of the great master Richter's life. The program includes a fugue, a passacaglia, and a grand fugue. The performance was also excellent, and one could not help but exclaim, "This is Richter! The performance was so great that one felt like shouting, "This is Richter! The performance was rich and fertile, with an overwhelming sense of urgency and strong building power, and even a sense of romantic excitement. The confident concluding chords that go on forever are heartbreaking. Although it is rare to hear such a performance these days, everyone would agree that this is definitely Bach's music. The audience's reaction was enthusiastic, and the encore, with its thunderous applause, was intense. The great organ of Notre Dame Cathedral was first installed in the 13th century. It has been further renovated in the 20th century and has become one of the most magnificent and famous organs in the world, with 109 stops and approximately 8,000 pipes. In 2013, the 850th anniversary of the cathedral's construction, the playing platform was renewed and the pipes were cleaned to restore the original clear sound. Just then, however, on April 15, 2019, a massive fire broke out in the cathedral.It was reported for a time that the large organ had also burned down, but 10 days after the accident, it was miraculously found to be intact.
