Rachmaninov, Sergei (1873-1943)

Description:

The 46th Suntory Music Award Commemorative Concert is now on CD! The concert was a great success," said Tchaikovsky, "their Rachmaninoff was surprisingly similar to Tchaikovsky's. That was very interesting to me. That's what made it so interesting for me. -Junichi Hirokami has been the Permanent Conductor of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and the Music Advisor since 2014. The relationship between the two orchestras is very good, and they have been working on a series of excellent projects and activities, winning the 46th Suntory Music Award in 2014. This album is a recording of the Suntory Hall live concert held in 2017 to commemorate the award. This is a rare masterful performance of Rachmaninoff's Rachmaninoff No. 2, which Hirokami has featured in every important concert, with full enthusiasm and uncompromising performance with thorough music making. Please enjoy the wonderful sound of Hirokami and the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Japan's proudest duo. The beautiful "Mozartiana" performed as an encore is included as a bonus. It is clear from the first movement, for example, that Hirokami makes the strings sing a long-breathed, smooth song. The lines are round, smooth, and angular, like those of a large Buddha or a statue of Buddha. And even when he sings, it is not with deep emotion, but with a sense of cleanliness and modesty. But it is neither cold nor expressionless, and the balance is maintained within the limits of modesty. Simply put, it is the beauty of restraint.(Junichi Hirokami was born in Tokyo and studied conducting at Tokyo College of Music. In 1984, he won the first Kirill Kondrashin International Competition for Young Conductors and began his international career. He has made guest appearances with major orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, etc. From 1991 to 1995, he was Principal Conductor of the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra, and from 1998 to 2000, he was Chief Conductor of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra. He served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra from 1991 to 1995, Principal Conductor of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2000, and Permanent Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra from 1991 to 2000. In recent years, he has made guest appearances with the Van Couver Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi of Milan, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and many others, From 2006 to 2008, he served as Music Director of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in the U.S., where he left behind numerous masterpieces. In Japan, he has been invited by the Saito Kinen Orchestra and the Mito Chamber Orchestra, as well as orchestras throughout Japan, and has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. He has also conducted highly acclaimed operas such as Verdi's "Masked Ball" and "Rigoletto" at the Sydney Opera House, "Ainadamar" and "Don Giovanni" at the Nissay Theatre, "La Traviata" and "Aida" at the New National Theatre, etc. In 2003, he received the Suntory Music Award together with the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, he received the 36th Arima Award. He is currently the Permanent Conductor and Music Advisor of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra and the Guest Conductor of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. He is a professor of conducting at the Tokyo College of Music. King International Inc.
