Brahms is a dependable Brahms, full of inevitability and organic construction. The performance of Brahms's First Symphony may be a bit too simple and may be a bit confusing if you listen to it only partially, focusing on the so-called "climaxes" of the work, such as the famous chorale and string ensemble in the last movement. From the beginning of the first movement to the last note of the fourth movement, there is not a single stagnation in the performance, and the motifs are tightly interlocked and constructed. There is no trace of a "kernel" in the performance, and every agogik and dunamik has a sense of inevitability, with each voice organically coming to life, making Brahms' laborious work, which took 20 years of elaboration, come alive as if written in a single stroke. (Lothar Zagrozek (1942-), a German conductor, began his musical career as a member of the Regensburg Cathedral Choir.
