Description:

Slavic Opera in Japan 1965The impression made by the Italian Opera Company on Japan's acceptance of opera after the war is legendary, but it was the "Slavic Opera" of 1965 that made an equal impact. In 1965, "Slavic Opera" made an equal impact on Japanese music fans with its authentic and robust performances of "Boris Godunov" and "Prince Igor," which they had only heard of in name. The performance, which has become the subject of much talk, now sees the light of day in the form of a CD. Half a century later, the performance that had Japanese audiences in stitches can be experienced once again. Boris," which had Japanese audiences in stitches, will see the light of day! Mussorgsky's opera "Boris Godunov" was first performed in Japan in 1919 by the Russo-Japanese Grand Opera, but due to language problems, it was never performed in Japan. Therefore, the performance by the Slavic Opera in September 1965 was a major event for Japanese music fans. Changarovich, who was said to be the second coming of Shaliapin, played the role of Boris, and impressed the audience with his portrayal of Boris, who becomes emperor without his consent and dies after being deprived of his throne by the intrigues of Poland, the country to which he belonged.Although the 1906 Rimsky-Korsakov version lacks the novelty of the original version, it is beautifully orchestrated with fluid sound, and Matacic and the NHK Symphony Orchestra give a full and powerful performance. The charm of the Zagreb National Opera Chorus is also noteworthy, convincing us of the power of the people's voices. The fact that such an amazing performance took place in Japan half a century ago is a record that will leave you speechless. King International Inc.
