Astonishing! Brahms through the eyes of Russia's great conductor Russia's great conductor, Brahms, revived in his true form. This is a supernumerary impact following Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. There are not so many Brahms symphonies recorded by Mravinsky, and the only available recordings of No. 2 were the Leningrad live performance on April 29, 1978, and this Vienna live performance on June 13, 1978. However, the latter was never put on the chopping block by fans who were disappointed with the sound quality at the time of its release, and the Leningrad live was practically the only one available. Therefore, with the appearance of the Vienna live performance, in which the sound quality has been improved and the true image of Mravinsky's "Bla 2" has emerged, we can now for the first time realize the greatness of Mravinsky's "Bla 2. The first thing that surprised me was the astonishingly wide dynamic range.The contrast between the weak tone at the beginning of the finale and the unimaginably huge size of the coda, which becomes more and more heated as it goes on, can be shared with the audience of that time. The fullness of the movement from the middle to the end of the finale is so terrifying that it makes one shudder at Mravinsky's divine work. It is interesting to note that although the music is unmistakably Brahms', there are many parts that remind me of Tchaikovsky. The lively rhythmic sense in the closing section of the first movement and the light woodwind ensemble in the middle section of the third movement are all unique interpretations that only Mravinsky, who was trained as a ballet conductor, could have come up with. The overall tone is transparent, and the cold sound of the strings, in particular, sounds like Russian music. The cold sound of the strings, in particular, sounds like Russian music.
