The Katsushika Trio features three founding members of the legendary fusion band “Cassiopeia.” They have returned to the roots of classic J-Fusion—which has recently been gaining renewed attention, particularly among young listeners overseas—with the completion of their exhilarating and powerful new album, *SO-DAYONE!*. The title was inspired by an incident that occurred during a concert. During the post-performance MC, as the members and fans shared the sentiment, “J-Fusion really is great, isn’t it?” the phrase “SO-DAYONE! (That’s right!)” was born. Production proceeded under the leadership of Minoru Mukaiya, who drew inspiration from this phrase, and the album’s framework was established in a short period of time. For this album, the band adopted a recording method where each member recorded individually in their own performance environments. By meticulously constructing each part, they have achieved the precise arrangements characteristic of fusion, as well as a solid ensemble that highlights the individual personalities of the three members. The album features tracks that fully showcase the charm of the Katsushika Trio, including the high-energy “Twilight Run,” the title track “SO-DAYONE!” with its distinctive, lively guitar cutting, and “Cobalt Express,” which unfolds as a thrilling high-speed fusion piece. Furthermore, “Paris-Nice”—provided by Kunihiko Murai, whom the members regard as their mentor—adds a touch of refined elegance to the album with its sophisticated, beautiful melody. From sounds reminiscent of city pop to melodic mid-tempo numbers and technical, funky playing, this album showcases a diverse range of musical styles.
