Description:

Treasure Ark, a series of high-quality live recordings, features the countdown show at Tokyo Dome on New Year's Eve 1988. This is the show where you can enjoy the momentum of Bon Jovi's heyday when "New Jersey" was a big hit! Bon Jovi's 1988 Tokyo Dome show was recorded! 1988 was the year that Tokyo Dome opened, and Mick Jagger performed at the Kaki Dashi performance. The year-end countdown performance and the January 1, 1989 concert were held as a package concert "Heat Beat Live '89 in Big Egg" featuring Bon Jovi, Ratt, Kingdom Come, and Britney Fox, which was also broadcast live on TV. At the time, Bon Jovi was reigning at the top of the world with "Slippery When Wet (Wild in the Streets)" (1986), which reached No. 1 in the U.S., and the follow-up "New Jersey" (1988), which naturally reached No. 1 in the U.S. (also No. 2 on the Japanese Oricon). The reason the New Year's Eve concert was possible in such an era was probably due to the fact that the band's popularity in Japan preceded that in their home country, and they had established a relationship of trust with their Japanese fans, performing in Japan every year since their debut in 1984 and gaining enough popularity to perform a five-day show at the Nippon Budokan in 1987. The setlist for this show consisted mostly of songs from "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey," with "Tokyo Road" from the second album for the Japanese fans sandwiched in between. As this was a live performance in their prime, the scale of the band's performance and John's vocals and the chorus intertwined with them were vivid. What is even more impressive is Richie's guitar playing, which is a living, breathing thing. The Japanese fans are said to be shy, but they learn the lyrics and sing the songs very well. The final track, "All Over Now," is an all-star session with all the bands from the countdown to midnight. This is a rare and precious recording, as it is difficult to release officially.
