Description:

Treasure Ark, a series of high-quality live recordings! This 2-CD set couples live performances in New York City in 1974 and Berkeley, California in 1975, before and after her No. 1 hit "You're No Good" expanded her popularity from the West Coast to the national stage. It was during this period that Linda Ronstadt, a well-known presence on the West Coast, made her breakthrough on the national scene, and her Betty Everett cover of "You're No Good," which became a No. 1 hit in the US, was released in November 1974. From there, "When Will I Be Loved" and "Heat Wave" were three consecutive songs to reach the top five on the U.S. charts. The album "Heart Like A Wheel (Bad You)" (1974) also reached No. 1 in the U.S., and the band went on to have a string of big hits. These two live performances are valuable records that capture the time before and after the band's popularity was about to become a nationwide phenomenon. Here you can hear Linda's first hit, "Long Long Time," pretty country like "SilverThread And Golden Needles," ballads like "Love Has No Pride," which Bonnie Raitt sang, and the Eagles' "Desperado," which Linda covered first. Linda's first cover of "Desperado" by the Eagles. In the past, Linda had sung a mix of songs written by her friends, singer/songwriters, and influences from country and Mexican music, but after the hits came out, she became an iconic face of America as a rock and roll singer in a big way. Linda's vocals at this time had tremendous power, and unlike the studio recordings, her bursting vocals come through directly. The backing band consists of Kenny Edwards (b) and Andrew Gold (g, p), who have known each other since the Stone Ponies days. This sound source is full of raw charm that cannot be conveyed by studio recordings.
