Despite struggling with poor sales, the band's performance was in top form. The New York and Denver shows from the 1973 tour that produced the masterpiece "Dixie Chicken" are now available on 2 CDs! From the tour that began after the release of "Dixie Chicken," the two discs include two shows in New York on April 19 and Denver on July 19. The band Little Feat, despite its advanced musicianship and playing ability, did not sell well, especially in the early years, and was on the verge of breaking up twice due to poor sales. The first time was after the release of their second album, "Saline Shoes" (1972). At that time, the band consisted of Lowell George (g, vo) and Bill Payne (key, vo), and a rhythm section consisting of Roy Estrada (b) and Richie Hayward (ds), Lowell's colleagues from the Mothers of Invention. Their first two albums were well received but did not sell well, and Estrada left the band to join Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.Little Feat returned as a six-piece with Kenny Gladney (b), Paul Barea (g, vo), and Sam Clayton (per, vo), and released the New Orleans funk-infused "Dixie Chicken" in January 1973, but sales were again disastrous. The band was on the verge of breaking up for the second time. Although "Dixie Chicken" is now highly acclaimed as a masterpiece, at the time it was an unsuccessful work by an unsuccessful band. Little Feat's 1973 was such a year. However, this had nothing to do with the content of the performance, but rather with the fact that it was a period when the band was probably pursuing its greatest musical adventures and performance possibilities, and when there was still no division of musical direction that would occur later on. Many people will want to hear all of the Feet's performances from this period.
