Full recording of the final show of Elvis Costello's third U.S. tour with The Attractions in his second year! The final show of Elvis Costello's second year U.S. tour with The Attractions at San Francisco's Winterland on June 7, 1978 is recorded in full! Elvis Costello made his debut wearing black cell-frame glasses like Buddy Holly at the height of the punk era, and his first album "MY AIM IS TRUE" (1977) was released in the U.S. in November, three months after its UK release. Immediately after that, he toured the U.S. for the first time with The Attractions from November to December. After the new year, they toured the U.S. for the second time from the end of January to the beginning of March 1978, and released their second album "This Year's Model" (1978) in March, and after touring the U.K., they went on their third U.S. tour without a pause. This is the soundtrack from the final show of that tour. 78 was the year Costello played the most shows in his career, almost every two days. The opening act for this show was Mink DeVille, who was in the same year as Costello, and Rockpile, the band of Nick Lowe and Dave Edmonds, who were deeply involved in Costello's debut, and they gave a tremendous performance.The band is riding high and the playing is polished, with members Steve Naive, Bruce Thomas, and Pete Thomas playing with a crisp edge. Debuting at the age of 23, the band's strong self-assertiveness got them into some trouble, but they gained a reputation as angry young men, and their popularity skyrocketed in the U.S. At the time, they were just shy of 25 years old, and their popularity was soaring in the U.S. This is a great performance that confirms the tremendous potential of Costello, who was about to turn 25 at the time!
