Rare live recordings of the band's wild, punk-inspired show at the Bottom Line in New York City, recorded between grueling U.S. tours just before their breakthrough! This FM broadcast release was recorded live at the Bottom Line in New York City on April 4, 1979, just as the Police were about to break through! During their second U.S. tour, which began in March 1979, the single "Roxanne" soared up the U.S. charts, peaking at #32. Here is a live performance of the song shortly before it reached its highest position of #32. The Police played more than 100 shows in the U.S. alone that year, and their schedule in April was hellish, with two shows a day for all five days from the 3rd to the 8th, with one day off in between. Perhaps that's how heated the popularity of the show had become. This Bottom Line show was held on April 3 and 4, also twice a day. This recording is said to be from the 4th, but it is unclear whether it is from the 1st or 2nd show.At the time, the band had not yet broken through in their home country of the UK (the single "Roxanne" was re-released and became a hit in the UK shortly after this), and the members were probably still running with the situation still unclear. The show started with the single "Can't Stand Losing You," but the band played most of the songs, probably because they had released only four singles in addition to the album "Outlandos d'Amour" (1978) and did not have many songs at that time. The band played "Can't Stand Losing You" again for the encore, which was the first song. Only "Landlord" was a new song that had not yet been released. Despite their high performance technique, the band had a punk-like wild rush of energy at that time, which was very primitive. This is a precious recording of the full force of the band's hunger just before their breakthrough!
