Description:

This 2CD coupling of a public performance for the French TV station TF1, recorded at the Theatre Olympia in Paris on December 19th at the height of their popularity, unearths the live recordings of Black Sabbath's debut year! Two months after their debut album "Black Sabbath", a live performance for the BBC's famous "John Peel Session" at the Paris Theater in London on April 26, 1970, and their second album "Paranoid" released in September of the same year reached No.1 in the UK, The 2CD coupling of a public show for the French TV station TF1, recorded at the Théâtre Olympia in Paris on December 19th, at the height of the band's popularity. The title "the originators of Heavy Metal" was of course given to Black Sabbath in later times, but it is a true testament to how heavy the band sounded when they first burst onto the scene. This is a tremendous sound source that perfectly captures how heavy and shocking their sound was at the time when they first appeared on the scene! The sound pressure and the guitar riffs played by Tony Iommi were so raw that even the vibrations of the strings could be felt. I wonder how much of a shock it would have been if I had experienced this live. The first album, "Black Sabbath," was reportedly produced in just two days (and recorded in one day!). Many of the songs were recorded in a single take, just like a live recording. The ensemble and heavy grooves heard here are exactly what the record sounds like, but the power and intensity of the live performance in front of the audience makes these recordings even more appealing. The band's sound grooves heavily and tightly, and Ozzy Osbourne's vocals, which had the impression of being somewhat groggy, are powerful and tight, while his distinctive voice remains intact. The sound quality may vary slightly from song to song, but the sheer power of the performance will be heard as part of the raw charm that only a live performance can bring. Disc 1 includes songs from before the recording of the second album, such as "War Pigs," "Fairies Wear Boots," "Paranoid," and "Iron Man," as well as a cover of "Blue Suede Shoes," which is more of an afterthought, and other songs not heard anywhere else. Ozzy Osbourne (Vo) Tony Iommi (G) Geezer Butler (B) Bill Ward (D)
