Description:
Debut album by Australian folk duo Franz Schuller & Murray Hinder, featuring their famous cover of P. F. Sloan's "Lonely World" (original release: 1978/OLIVE RECORDS). The first album by Australian folk duo Franz Schuller & Murray Hinder, released in 1978. The title song is a cover of P. F. Sloan's "Lonely World," which was released in 1966 and was a hit only in Japan. Of the 16 songs on the album, all but two are F&M originals. These are "The World of Solitude" and "Itumademo," which is credited only as a "Japanese Folk Song. The latter song, originally titled "Konnichi no Hi wa Sayonara," was a hit in 1966, sung by Yoshiko Moriyama (lyrics and music by Shoichi Kaneko), and was introduced on "Minna no Uta" (NHK) in February 1974 (sung by Michitsuko Honda and the Tokyo Broadcasting System Children's Chorus). In 2007, the song was selected as one of the 100 best Japanese songs by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.Like "Lonely World," the two original songs have the same simple melodies and a college-folk feel of yesteryear, and in this sense, the entire album is filled with songs that are very much to the liking of the Japanese. Schuller, a well-known food critic and writer currently living in Sydney, has a unique background, having eaten food from all over the world since his teenage years, and has a deep knowledge of Japanese food and culture, which may have been reflected in the atmosphere and cover songs on this album. Murray seems to have continued his career as a musician in Australia.
