Piano Sketches, the latest album by popular North German musician Tobias Wilden, who is not only a guitarist but also a pianist, and Spark and the Wither, an album released on Bandcamp in 2017, two gems of piano albums in a two-in-one North German musician Tobias Wilden successfully completed his first Japan tour with solo guitar in 2018. He also performed a few piano pieces as encores at venues with pianos during the tour. 2020's latest piano album, "Piano Sketches," was born from the inspiration he received on his travels, including the 2018 Japan tour. Challenged to compose simply, as if sketching feelings and ideas that arose spontaneously from the various landscapes of his hectic and ever-changing travels, and also influenced by the improvisations of classical composers such as Poulenc, the beautiful melodies are more strongly contrasted between stillness and movement than ever before. This is a new addition to Wilden's appeal, which combines jazz, ambient, and classical music with a unique sense of style. The 2017 album, "Spark and the Wither," is based on the theme of "fragility.The delicate and nostalgic piano music reflects forgotten memories of his stay in a 150-year-old mansion in Bavaria, Germany, and his discovery of old slide negatives left by his family there. In addition to the French Impressionist influences and ambient approach of his early piano works such as "Artifacts," the more emotionally profound songwriting of this work shows his growth as a composer.
