Beirut's first new work in two years is a playful soundtrack to the worlds of circus and fiction Beirut's seventh studio work in two years was commissioned by Viktoria Dalborg, director of the Swedish contemporary circus company Kompani Giraff, to compose music for a new show based on the novel by Yudit Sharansky. The theme of the circus performance based on Sharansky's novel is "loss" and "the impermanence of everything in the world," and "what is lost" is expressed in various forms, including extinct animal species, lost architectural and literary heritage, and the abstract concept of loss through aging. This is a large work of 18 songs and approximately one hour in length, including pieces using acoustic instruments typical of Beirut and a new attempt using modular synths.
