Two classic titles by renowned Ethiopian composer/pianist Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru are now available on CD.Compiled and reissued in 2016, she has been recording since the early 60s to raise funds for orphanages in her native country.Erik Satie, Debussy, the liturgical music of the Coptic Ethiopian church, and the one-of-a-kind compositions influenced by traditional Ethiopian music. This work, which she herself performs solo piano, was released independently in Germany in small numbers to raise funds for charitable causes, including an orphanage and an organization supporting widows of war victims. The beautiful yet somewhat fragile atmosphere of the piano expresses her feelings of caring for those who have been abandoned by society and those who have been hurt by conflicts through her music.
