Description:

Pianist Shinnosuke Tashiro, who studied at the Liszt Academy of Music and possesses a deep understanding of Hungarian music. With his deep understanding of Bartók’s pianistic language, Tashiro illuminates the composer’s creative journey—from his early works, which retain traces of late Romanticism, to his deepening fascination with folk music and the establishment of his unique musical language. From the popular “Romanian Folk Dances”—a piece familiar even to those unfamiliar with Bartók’s name—to his works situated at the crossroads of ethnicity, culture, and language, Tashiro’s powerful musicality imprints Bartók’s appeal—as he navigated a turbulent era—on the 21st century. In 1975, he won first place in the junior high school division of the 29th All-Japan Student Music Competition (sponsored by the Mainichi Shimbun). He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1983, was selected as a finalist in the 52nd Japan Music Competition (co-sponsored by the Mainichi Shimbun and NHK), and received the Kawai Prize in the Overseas Study Competition. From 1984 to 1986, he studied at the Liszt Academy of Music as a scholarship student sponsored by the Hungarian government. In 1985, he won the First Medal at the Épinal International Piano Competition, and in 1986, he received a medal at the Maria Canals International Music Competition. In 1987, he completed his graduate studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts and was awarded the Kreutzer Prize. Since then, he has held regular recitals in Tokyo and Sapporo, in addition to performing at concerts in various locations such as Hakodate, Toyama, Fukui, Nirasaki, and Okinawa, as well as appearing on NHK-FM. He performed with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in 1984 and 1995. For many years, he has conducted workshops on required repertoire for the PTNA Piano Competition throughout Japan and has made numerous recordings for the competition’s required repertoire CDs. In 2010, he edited and provided commentary for the sheet music edition of *Bartók Dances* (Yamaha Music Media). He serves as a judge for the All-Japan Student Music Competition, the PTNA Piano Competition, the Japan Classical Music Competition, and others. He studied under Toyoaki Matsuura, Teruji Karashima, and Péter Shoimosh, and further honed his skills under Georg Vashaheri, László Simon, and others. He is currently an associate professor at Musashino Academy of Music and a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts. ALMRECORDS/Kojima Recording
