Ruth Slenczenska, the superhuman pianist who electrified Suntory Hall even at the age of 93, finally brought to fruition—after more than a decade—the long-awaited first night of her 2005 Okayama Symphony Hall 80th Birthday Commemorative Concert: a live performance of the three great piano concertos. She performed the three concertos as part of her 80th-anniversary concert series, and it was originally planned—at her strong request—that the concert featuring Chopin’s Scherzos and Ballades on the following day, the 31st (“The Art of Ruth Slenczenska IV”), would be her final performance. However, the enthusiastic cheers of her fans moved her, and after a series of concerts for smaller audiences, this culminated in last year’s concert at Suntory Hall. Regulus
