A collection of previously unreleased recordings from the INA archives of the one-of-a-kind guitarist Norihiko Watanabe, who passed away in February 2004 to widespread regret. In the spring of 2004, we visited Radio France (formerly the French National Broadcasting Corporation), where the 11th Paris International Guitar Competition (1969) had been held, and came across a recording of Norihiko’s winning performance. The first words that came to mind when I heard that performance for the first time were “pure” and “innocent.” We wanted to preserve the performance of this 22-year-old who shone so brightly on the Paris stage, and our dream of releasing a memorial CD began to take shape.
