The unique message woven into the music while struggling under the strong socialist regime has become the focus of Shostakovich research, and this No. 10, with its motif of tricks and codes, has been interpreted in various ways. It is also considered one of the finest symphonies among the 15 symphonies in terms of compositional perfection and depth of content. In her commentary, Fumiko Ichiyanagi, a leading Shostakovich scholar, mentions that No. 10 may be the most studied since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
