Tadahiro Sakashita is a baritone who graduated in voice from Toho Gakuen and is a member of the Nikikai Opera Foundation. Winner of first prize at the 9th Yoshinao Nakada Memorial Competition, he is active in both opera and concert work. On this long-awaited debut album he offers a wide-ranging programme that takes in not only classical repertoire and Japanese art song but also Scottish folk song, folclore and chanson. From the Scottish folk song that opens the disc to "Hana wa Saku (Flowers Will Bloom)" that closes it, the variety of expression and mood keeps the listener continually engaged. This warm, enveloping baritone is a voice that will speak to listeners of any generation.
