This release features a pairing of Symphony No. 4 and Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral.” As in his previous recordings, Kobayashi avoids getting bogged down in the analytical approach that has become something of a trend in recent years. Instead, he performs these symphonies strictly from the perspective of a musician, playing each note with love and a rich, full-bodied sound. The Czech Philharmonic, too, responds fluidly to Kobayashi’s baton with even greater tonal variety, bringing elegance—and even a touch of femininity—to these works.
